  9. Subject: initex failing on plain.tex

  11. I am using web2c-6.1 and GCC version 2.5.8 and trying to build TeX under SunOS
  12. 4.1.3.  I get to the part where the makefile uses initex on plain.tex and I
  13. get the following error message:

  25. I entered "H" at this point to get more data, but it didn't help me figure
  26. out what was going wrong :-(

  29. I wasn't able to read the size data for this font,
  30. so I will ignore the font specification.

  32. You might try inserting a different font spec;
  33. e.g., type `I\font<same font id>=<substitute font name>'.

  36. In layman's terms, what in the heck is wrong?  I have cmr9.tfm and it appears
  37. to be a good copy (tftopl gave me sensible output without any errors) and it
  38. is in a directory where the other .tfm files are.  The permissions are 755
  39. which should be OK on it.  Does any one have any ideas as to what is wrong 
  40. here?  My guess is maybe a directory isn't getting searched, but I can't
  41. really tell from the error message.  Please send email as I don't take this
  42. mailing list.  By the way, thanks for the help with my problem last week when
  43. I couldn't create tex.pool.  I cleaned up the distribution and started over and
  44. that worked.  Apparently I did run "make clean" at some point and that hosed
  45. everything.  Thanks for any help you can give.
